What Is NDIS Community Participation?

NDIS community participation, otherwise known as community access support, is a funded support category under the core supports line item. This covers the supports focused on increasing social, economic, and educational connections through finding and exploring interests, courses, hobbies, support networks, and employment.

NDIS community participation support can fund lots of activities, provided they are deemed reasonable and necessary to meet your goals outlined in your NDIS plan.

How Does NDIS Community Participation Work?

The NDIA will assess your communication, mobility, and independence to determine the frequency and hours allocated for community participation in your NDIS plan.

The support worker will engage with you, your families, carers, the disability sector, and other stakeholders through various local activities to better understand the NDIS goals outlined in your NDIS plans. These activities can be performed one-on-one with a support worker or group, depending on what’s best suited to you.

With community participation funding, you can get assistance for the following:

Visiting the local library
Becoming a member of any social group
Enrolling in painting or pottery classes to embrace your inner artist
Going to the movies or concerts with your support worker
Using public transport to travel to work
Learning how to use social media and more
